I have recently been having some thoughts on the will of God in our lives and living purposefully. I was listening to John Piper today on my way to pick my sister up from college. John Piper is a great pastor and speaker. Besides his church in Minneapolis, his ministry, Desiring God has had a deep impact on many people and is very moving. My sister brought up this verse with me in James 1:6. It states, "But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind." So many people these days want to make sure the steps they are taking are the will of God. They wait and go back and forth as to what they want to do because they don't want to make a 'mistake'. They don't want to ruin God's plan. The great thing about God is the grace He has bestowed on our lives. Doesn't His plan include our 'mistakes?' When we make a 'mistake' God isn't up in heaven wringing his hands like He doesn't know what to do. Our shortcomings have been already included in the grand scheme of things. In reality, the fear of not doing God's will is showing a lack of faith. God has a purpose in everything that happens, whether or not we realize it. For example, I have a friend. She is quite aware that she needs to leave her current living situation. She has been praying for God's will to be shown to her for her next step. There are zero opportunities in her little town and has felt that this is God's answer towards her. However, she has not gone anywhere yet because she doesn't want to ruin God's will and move to the wrong location! She is not putting her faith in God and is instead fearful of what will happen if she makes a 'mistake' How much our lives are freed up from guilt and worry when we realize that God has a purpose behind EVERYTHING that happens! |
