They have been married 56 years and have created an amazing legacy and heritage. Their footprints are HUGE and only by the grace of God will any of us ever be able to fill them. We count our blessings every time that we are with them.
March 17, 2005 was a day that we will never forget. My grandpa fell from a ladder straight on his head and by the time that he got to a doctor he had a 20% chance of making it through the surgery to relieve pressure on his skull and brain, let alone make it through the night. By the many prayers of fellow believers around the WORLD(yes!) and the miraculous works of Jesus Christ, he got up and PRAYED at my brother's wedding 3 MONTHS LATER! We thank the Lord for the expertise of his wonderful neurosurgeon, Dr. Stillerman. Even he calls my grandpa a walking miracle. This is a picture of my grandparents with all their girls and just missing their son!

These are the girls that I love getting to see when we get together. There are 6 of us stair stepped. We have 2 younger cousins that we love as well, but we love this picture of us!
This was us 6 years ago getting ready for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary open house.

We had to update the picture and as we were all going to be here for it we decided to update!

Since the first picture, there have been 4 cousin weddings and we have added 3 girl cousins. The youngest 2 were not here for any pictures this time around, and H and L were not at the farm either, so this picture is technically missing 3 girls.

We are clearly a family dominated by girls ;) There are also a total of 4 male cousins...5 now that H is married. Their ranks are slowly growing!
My parents also celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary today and we celebrated together as well. I don't have any pictures of it yet.
I was totally blessed and came away very thankful for my family. We are all separated in 7 states and being together is rare. These cousins are not only my cousins, but my sisters as well. It is so much fun to watch us growing up and seeing where God takes our individual lives. I dream of our simpler days when we all planned to move in together! How life changes! It was very bittersweet as this will be one of the last times that H and E will be with us as well as they are moving overseas for several years.
Thank you Lord for the wonderful heritage you have allowed me to grow up and be a part of.
I love your family, too. Since Scott and I both came from unsaved families, we looked to Marvin and Alice as one of the families we wanted to imitate. We wanted to be close to our kids and raise them in the ways of the Lord. By the grace of God, we're about halfway there - we've been married 25 years.
ReplyDeleteAw Christen, you made Auntie cry with this, nicely written. Christ in you/and each one is the source of the bond, thanks be to Him. Yes, we are all human with our idiosyncrasies and sin, and that occasionally separates us. But it is my prayer that we all continue to grow in Christ likeness. And continue to carry on our Christian faith in honoring Grandpa and Grandma Mertz and our heritage. Love you, Aunt Marcie
