Passion

People often ask me why I chose to do hair and I often respond with 'It is something that I have always wanted to do!' This is true, but I started really thinking about why cosmetology brings me such joy. I came up with this reason when I started thinking about my passion in life. I LOVE letting others in on the love of Christ. Sharing my faith has always been a difficult thing for me. It is not something that comes easy to me. I have discovered that when you love on people, they start to question WHERE that comes from. They may not ask me personally, but it gets them thinking.
Just today, I had a girl come in whose hair was in dire need of help. The previous salon had done some serious damage to her hair. When she left, she was so incredibly happy. She kept talking about how much she could tell that I loved my job and my personality and how much care I took in making sure that she would like her hair when she was done. Her hair wasn't even 100% where she wanted it, but the fact that I was honest with the process and how it can't be achieved in 2 hours...or even 4 made her appreciate me even more. These are the days I remember why I do hair.
So many people do hair and don't care about their clients. I don't understand that view. In this industry, your client makes you. Clients come to you and tell you their darkest secrets...things their own families don't even get to hear at times. If, even for a short while, make them forget or encourage them through their problems, I have done my job.
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't thank the Lord for finding a passion so perfectly picked out for me!

“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, “I used everything you gave me.” -Erma Bombeck

  1. Could you put your blog url on your business card? It might give you another way to witness. I think clients would love reading what you just wrote above. So glad you are happy in your chosen field.
