Personal Strength

I was talking with a dear friend tonight. Her aunt has cancer and her outlook is better than they first thought, but still fairly grim. Her aunt is doing well emotionally and spiritually(as far as she can tell) My friend made a comment to me that made me think. She said that, "It makes me scared to be strong." in reference to the verse about God only giving us trials that we can handle. I was a little surprised by her statement. It made me think though. How do we know how bad someone else has it? Do we really truly know? My bad might be far worse than your bad. But they are both to our farthest extent of pain/trials. It would still feel the same technically.
We can think, "I could never go through that, I would die." Do we really know though? Have we actually gone through it. Our strength increases SO much when we actually get into a situation. The verse I found that most closely talks about what she was quoting was 1 Corinthians 10:13. I'm not 100% positive it is the verse, but it has the same idea. When she made that comment, it struck me very strongly. It actually almost bothered me. When I wrote out what I thought, it made my thinking a lot more clear.
